First of all, we had considered the Logitech Harmony hub which looks a good device. Although we went for a device which is less expensive called the zmote. The zmote is a small gadget that connects to your home Wi-Fi network and lets you control all your remote-controlled devices (TV, DVD, etc) through a browser on your phone, tablet or a computer. There is no dedicated amazon skill for zmote but you can use another amazon skill for it called Anymote . Anymote can use various IR blasters such as the Zmote which will control your IR controlled devices via the zmote device and Anymote app. I got the paid version of Anymote for I think about €7 on Android play store. Count not get IOS version to setup with zmote. It works quite well, but sometimes I have an issue that the IP address given to zmote device changes. In this case, I set up zmote again. I have setup it up here in the office to control a basic remote controlled TV. You say commands like “Alexa, tell Anymote to turn on the TV”. Also I have some Belkin Wemo switches, which allows me control a connected fan and heater. Here I say directly Alexa turn on the fan. I have also connected the Vera plus controller as there is now an updated skill for the Amazon echo. This also works quite well. “Alexa, turn On the light in the hall” At the moment the Vera plus does not work via wifi and must be connected via cable directly to the router. If you only need a few sockets then Belkin Wemo switches are probably the best option to get.
