Also, the fourth planet from our sun, and the centre of attention regarding inter planetary exploration. It is home to a number of the solar systems most tremendous geographical wonders… “Olympus Mons,” a shield volcano of utterly terrifying proportions. Over 600 kilometres in diameter, you have to wonder, what sort of event, what sort of pressures would be required to create such a rupture upon our red neighbour. Also its three smaller, yet eerily aligned counterparts, could have only been created during a catastrophic release of core magma. Although mainstream astronomy and science are in agreement, that Mars’s life came to an abrupt end around four billion years ago, no one seems to know, or want to say why. However, we feel there is compelling evidence left upon its surface, by an ancient, Martian apocalypse. “Valles Marineris,” named after the Mariner 9 Mars orbiter which discovered it, is a system of canyons that runs along the Martian surface east of the Tharsis region. At more than 4,000 kilometres long, 200 kilometres wide, and up to 7 kilometres deep, Valles Marineris is one of the largest canyons in our Solar System, seconded only to the rift valley on earth. Could these enormous geographical features be connected, could the Valees Marineris, and Olympus mons be scars, left by the passing blows of ancient events? Asteroids or even other planets? The theory suggests that as mars was struck, it caused pressures within the centre of the planet to become critical, forcing it to belch out through the weakest points of the surface, this occurring on the opposite side to the impact, subsequently forming 4 enormous volcanoes almost simultaneously, as this unknown body continued its grinding collision with the Martian planet, scouring an enormous scar upon its surface, which we now know as valles marieris. Nearly cracking our neighbour in two, this event may have destroyed the impacting object, possibly creating the asteroid belt in the process. Theories regarding the formation of the asteroid belt, from the destruction of a hypothetical fifth planet, are today collectively referred to as "disruption theory." This theory states that there was once a major planetary member of our solar system, circulating in the present gap between Mars and Jupiter, which was variously destroyed when it was struck by another large celestial body. Could this “large celestial body” have possibly been mars? There is a dramatic history surrounding our red planetary neighbour, a planet, we may one day revive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phaeton...) https://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/atl... https://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/atl...
