The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, opened on March 10 2012, is a five-acre performing arts center consisting of three theaters in two buildings.

The Smith Center is the home of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Nevada Ballet Theatre.

Prior to The Smith Center opening, Las Vegas was one of the largest cities in the country without a performing arts center.

The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation made a donation of $150 million in 2005, the second largest donation to performing arts in United States history. The building was named after Fred and Mary Smith, the chairman of the Reynolds Foundation and his wife, as the largest benefactors.

The Lied Discovery Children's Museum also resides in the Smith Center.

The building is a reinterpretation of the Nebraska State Capitol at Lincoln and the Bullocks Wilshire in Los Angeles. White Indiana limestone for the facade (as at Lincoln), as well as numerous detail elements based on the Hoover Dam and 1920's motifs, feature throughout the facility, including a winged sculpture in the Center lobby modeled after the dam's famous Winged Figures of the Republic statues.

At the corner is a 17-story tower featuring 47 bells and providing a new focal point for the downtown skyline, as well as the Center.

The Fremont Street Experience is a pedestrian mall in Downtown Las Vegas.

The central attraction is a barrel vault canopy, 90 ft (27 m) high at the peak, and four blocks in length(460 m).

Viva Vision, presented nightly beginning at dusk, is a spetacular light show with more than 12 million LED lamps illuminating the overhead canopy, runing along the Fremont Street Experience promenade from Main Street to Fourth Street.

SlotZilla at Fremont Street Experience is a 12-story, slot machine-inspired zip line attraction. The lower lines (77 feet up) travel halfway down the Fremont Street Experience pedestrian mall. The upper lines (114 feet up) go the entire length of the mall (1,750 feet). Guests on the upper "Zoomline" travel prone, or "superhero-style."

Music is played throughout the mall. Concerts, usually free, are also held on three stages. The venue has become a major tourist attraction for downtown Las Vegas, and is also the location of the city's annual New Year's Eve party, complete with fireworks on the display screen.

Historically, Fremont Street had Las Vegas' first hotel (the Hotel Nevada in 1906, present day Golden Gate), first telephone (1907), first paved street (1925), first Nevada gaming license — issued to the Northern Club at 15 E. Fremont St, first traffic light, first elevator (the Apache Hotel in 1932), and the first high-rise (the Fremont Hotel in 1956). The Horseshoe was the first casino to install carpeting, while the Golden Nugget was the first structure designed from the ground up to be a casino.

By 1992, 80% of the Las Vegas casino market, however, was on the Strip. Downtown Las Vegas hotels and casinos sought to build an attraction that would attract more visitors to their businesses. The Fremont Street Experience was the answer.

The light show was opened on December 14, 1995. The first New Year's party was held on December 31, 1995.

The initial $70 million investment and the continued improvements have resulted in successful and ongoing downtown redevelopment. The City of Las Vegas and the downtown casinos have benefited as more than 60% of visitors to Downtown are lured by the Fremont Street Experience and the many forms of entertainment it offers.

Container Park is located on the corner of Fremont and Seventh Street in downtown Las Vegas. It's made up of repurposed, different-sized shipping containers that house a variety of retail shops and restaurants.

Because businesses are located in shipping containers, in-store space is limited, and tables for dining are located outside, creating an open-air pedestrian mall of sorts.

At the entrance is the 40-foot-long, fire-breathing Mantis greeting visitors.

The complex also includes a main stage featuring live entertainments and a planetarium like 360-degree dome theatre showing immersive, 4K-visual movies.

Funded by Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh, the $350-million Container Park has a tech incubator feel in that everyone here is a new small business owner. They work together, support each other and grow their businesses.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is a public recreation area 20 miles south-west of Las Vegas.

The spring-fed creek and grassy meadows formed an oasis. In the 1800s, this area was used extensively by outlaws involved in Indian slave trading, horse stealing and raids upon passing caravans.

In 1948, Chester Lauck, who ran national radio shows and made movies, purchased the Ranch and named it the Bar Nothing Ranch. The area became a retreat for his family from their lifestyle in Los Angeles. The Laucks built the main sandstone residence, now the park office and visitor center. They also built a boys camp for their sons. Soon paying guests expanded this operation.

In 1955, the Laucks sold the ranch to German actress Vera Krupp. Vera, born in Germany, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1947. She married German industrialist Alfried Krupp, her fourth husband, in 1952. Though Mr. Krupp was not allowed to come to the United States due to his conviction for war crimes in World War II, his wife came back to the states. They divorced in 1957. Vera renamed the ranch Spring Mountain Ranch and hoped to raise a strain of white-faced Herefords and Brahmas.

Mrs. Krupp lived at the ranch until 1964, when she moved to Bel Air due to poor health. During her ownership she modified the interior of the main house and added a swimming pool and bedroom with a secret passage. In addition, a guest house, various sheds and a kennel for her Great Danes were built in the service area of the ranch.

A famous story from the Krupp period involved the theft of the Krupp Diamond. On April 10, 1959, as Vera and ranch employee Harold Brotherson ate dinner, three men forced their way into the main house, stole the 33.6-carat blue-white diamond and fled. It was recovered six weeks later in New Jersey. The diamond was sold as part of the estate of Vera Krupp after she died in 1967.

Richard Burton bought the Krupp diamond on May 17, 1968 at an auction in New York for $307,000, and presented to his wife Elizabeth Taylor with the diamond on their yacht, the Kalizma while it was moored on the River Thames in London.

Taylor died in 2011 and the diamond was auctioned at Christie's by her estate on 16 December 2011, having been renamed the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond. It was sold for $8,818,500 (including buyer's premium, $9.39 million as of 2017), to the South Korean conglomerate E-Land, setting a record price per karat US$265,697 for a colorless diamond.

In 1967, Mrs. Krupp sold the ranch to Howard Hughes for a reputed $625,000. At this time, Hughes was living in the Desert Sands Hotel which he acquired shortly before buying the ranch. Hughes's involvement in southern Nevada began in the 1950s with frequent visits to the area. He began investing heavily in Las Vegas real estate in 1967, eventually owning several major hotel/casinos, vast tracts of undeveloped land surrounding the city and more than 700 mining claims.

Spring Mountain Ranch, as far as it is known, never hosted Hughes himself. It was mainly used by Hughe's employees, particularly Robert Maheu, his right-hand man. The 528-acre property sold in 1972 to business partners Fletcher Jones and William Murphy for $1.5 million. At the time, this sale fueled reports that Hughes was divesting himself of Las Vegas properties due to difficulties with Nevada gaming authorities. Hughes died in 1976.

Fletcher Jones and William Murphy, partners in many land development deals, wanted to build a large equestrian-oriented residential neighborhood that would support up to 2,000 people. A public outcry encouraged the Clark County Planning Commission to stall their application for rezoning. When stiff opposition to the plans formed, Jones announced his intention to auction the property.

In 1968, the Bureau of Land Management completed a master development plan for the area. This plan included a relatively high level of recreation development and met with stiff opposition from environmental groups. A new plan, developed jointly with Nevada State Parks, later became final and Spring Mountain Ranch became a state park in 1973.

In 1976, Spring Mountain Ranch was entered into the Historic Register of Historic Places as a historic district.

Because of the higher elevation, the ranch offers a diverse opportunity for plant study. Four plant communities are represented: Desert Scrub, Black brush, Pinon-Juniper, and Riparian. Plants typical of the desert as well as woodland can be seen, and with adequate rainfall, the spring brings a burst of wildflowers. Common species sighted are desert marigold, globe mallow, brittlebush, Joshua Tree, Mojave yucca, and indigo bush.

Animal life is diverse but nocturnal, so many species go unseen. Typical desert animals include a variety of lizards and snakes, antelope, ground squirrels, jackrabbits, cottontail rabbits, kit foxes, and coyotes. Higher elevation species include rock squirrel, badger, mule deer, and bighorn sheep.

With 360º seating, The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil tells a unique story from every angle, while a three-time Grammy winning soundtrack sets the backdrop for thrilling aerial acrobatics, colorful new imagery and reimagined choreography.

The Fountains of Bellagio is a vast, choreographed water feature with performances set to light and music.

The performances take place in front of the Bellagio hotel and are visible from numerous vantage points on the Strip, both from the street and neighboring structures. The show takes place every 30 minutes in the afternoons and early evenings, and every 15 minutes from 8 pm to midnight. Two minutes before a water show starts, the nozzles begin to break the water surface and the lights illuminating the hotel tower turn to a purple hue (usually), or red-white-and-blue for certain music. Shows may be cancelled without warning because of high wind, although shows usually run with less power in face of wind. A single show may be skipped to avoid interference with a planned event. Additional shows can occur for special occasions including weddings.

The fountain display is choreographed to various pieces of music, including “The Star Spangled Banner” by Whitney Houston as the first show of the day, "Time To Say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli, "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood, "Your Song" by Elton John, "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis Presley, "Luck Be a Lady" by Frank Sinatra, "My Heart Will Go On" by Céline Dion, A 3 song medley by Tiesto and "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed.

The fountains are set in a 8-acre (3.2 ha) manmade lake. Contrary to urban myth, the lake is not filled with treated greywater from the hotel. The lake is actually serviced by a freshwater well that was drilled decades prior to irrigate a golf course that previously existed on the site. The fountains actually use less water than irrigating the golf course did. They incorporate a network of pipes with more than 1,200 nozzles that make it possible to stage fountain displays coordinated with more than 4,500 lights. It is estimated that the fountains cost $40 million to build. The fountains were created by WET, a design firm specializing in inventive fountains and architectural water features.

Four types of nozzles are used for the various effects: 208 Oarsmen – jets with a full range of spherical motion 798 Shooters – shoot water upwards 192 Super Shooters – send a water blast as high as 240 ft (73 m) in the air. 16 Extreme Shooters – send a water blast as high as 460 ft (140 m) (added in 2005)

This fountain was the largest fountain in the world when it first opened but then surpassed by Dubai Bay fountain and Okada Manila in 2010 and 2017 respectively.
