The Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is a protected wildlife refuge, situated 90 miles (140 km) north of Las Vegas.
The 5,380-acre (21.8 km2) refuge was created on August 16, 1963.
Located in the Pacific Flyway, the refuge provides high-quality migration and wintering habitat for migrating birds, with emphasis on waterfowl.
In winter, Bald eagles can often be spotted on the Upper Lake near marsh and meadow habitats hunting for ducks and fish.
Saw at least two during this Eagle Watch event which included an eagle information lecture, organized by the refuge staff.
